Master of Science in Aeronautical Mechanics and Energetics (AME)

Introduction

This training is specialized in transportation (mainly aeronautical) and energy. The aim is to give students, at the end of the two-year program, a strong theoretical, numerical and experimental knowledge on energetics for turbine engines and on materials for high temperatures.

Students will work on industry’s current issues thanks to projects including in the program and thanks to the final project that could be carried out within partner companies or laboratories for their Master Thesis.

Admission requirements

The MSc AME degree is open to students with a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical or mechatronics engineering.

In 2017-2018, if you already have completed  at least 1 year in a graduate program, you can apply directly in 2nd year (places are still available in the Major High Temperature Materials).

Tuition and fees – 2018/2019

– 7300€/year

Tuition and fees may vary every year (depending on the decision of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research).

Scholarships

– Scholarships of 3000€/year may be awarded (on merit).

– GIFAS Program of excellence : allocation of a tuition waiver for the first year of the program only

Master of Science in Turbulence

Presentation

Turbulence presents one of the greatest challenges to the advancement of both science and engineering. Whether the primary interest is the environment, energy, industrial processes, or aero/hydrodynamics, turbulent processes often dominate. In the absence of a complete theoretical understanding or general turbulence models, the engineering practice of dealing with turbulence is as much an art as it is science or engineering.

The programme is designed to introduce students to both the science and the art of turbulence at an early point in their studies. This knowledge can then be applied immediately to the large number of disciplines where turbulence occurs, including (but not limited to) environmental processes, combustion, engine technology, heat transfer, energy production, vehicle design, and most fluid/thermal/chemical systems.

The fundamental concepts of turbulence theory are taught together with advanced, state-of-the-art computational and experimental methodologies, so the student not only gains an understanding of all three, but learns how they can be used together. The goal is to prepare students to directly apply the acquired skills and knowledge to a wide variety of scientific and engineering disciplines wherever turbulence occurs. The elective courses and project offer opportunities to explore areas of applicability and for specialization. The majority of graduates are expected to move to other disciplines for employment or further study.

Course description

The International Master’s Programme in Turbulence is jointly offered in English by Ecole Centrale from Lille, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et d’Aérotechnique fromPoitiers and Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs from Poitiers. It consists of four quarters of courses followed by a thesis project. Upon completion of the programme students are awarded the Master of Science (MSc) degree. Two semesters will take place in Lille at Ecole Centrale. One semester will take place in Poitiers, shared by ENSI Poitiers and ENSMA. This will allow the students to experience two scientific and cultural environments. The last semester is devoted to the Master thesis (in english) which can be carried out within or outside of France at a variety of collaborating industry and university environments.

The programme deals in depth with modern computational and experimental approaches to turbulent flows. The International Master’s Programme in Turbulence is taught entirely in English. Courses on French language and culture are also given to the foreign students in order to help them benefit fully from their stay in France.

Postgraduate Research-oriented Master’s Degrees

Together with the University of Poitiers, ISAE-ENSMA offers 3 Research Master’s degrees. These degree programs are closely linked to research laboratories: the Pprime Institute and the LIAS with over 200 research staff. These research-oriented Masters are also open to ISAE-ENSMA engineering students.

Master of “Air and Ground Transportation”

Objectives: this postgraduate degree course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge in aerodynamics, energetics, heat transfer, and mechanics ofstructures and materials and the ability to analyse and resolve complex problems, whether they are experimental, analytical or numerical.

Master of “High Performance Materials”

ISAE-ENSMA supervisor: G. Hénaff, V. Pelosin

Objectives: this postgraduate degree course aims to train young researchers in the field of Materials Science. Students can choose between two further specialisations:

  • Physics and chemistry of high performance materials
  • Engineering of high performance materials

Applications to the Master of High Performance Materials are only open to students from partner unviersities of ISAE-ENSMA.

Master of “Computer Science”

ISAE-ENSMA supervisor: M. Richard

Objectives: the aim is to train students in computer science research, through computer science research, with special emphasis on real time systems, databases, human/machine interface, software engineering.

Applications to the Master of Computer Science are only open to students from partner unviersities of ISAE-ENSMA.
